Introduction:

The school district has just finished building a new high school for you and your peers. The building exterior is sensational and your new school will soon be the envy of nearby school districts. The interior of the building has a brand new gym, cafeteria and multiple computer labs. The science lab is stunning and has the newest technologys that the district could afford. The athletic facilities will help your football team train hard and beat your rivals, Downtown High in the big Thanksgiving Day game. Everything seems to be great with the building. However, your class has been informed that the building will not open. Puzzled, your class inquires as to why.

It turns out that the architect forgot about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This states that all public structures must be accessible for students with physical disabilities. The architect forgot to add wheelchair ramps to the front and back entrances to the school. As the architect is on another job, if the school waited for him to return, it could take years for the new school to open. The principal of your school has heard how well your class is doing in math recently and that gave her an idea. Using your extensive knowledge in geometry, she wants your class to design the wheelchair ramps for the new school. Your job will directly impact whether or not the school will open on time.
